Shamim Osman warns BNP-Jamaat of befitting reply: AL ready to face them on streets

Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman has warned the anti-independence forces of a befitting reply if they create unrest in the country in the name of movement.

He made the warning while addressing a mammoth gathering in front of the Awami League office in Rail Gate-2 area of Narayanganj city on Saturday.

The lawmaker came up with the warning when the BNP-Jamaat combine is issuing threats to overthrow the government after the opportunity to hold public meetings.

“You (BNP-Jamaat) are in favour of destroying the country while we (Awami League) are in favour of building the country,” he said.

BNP and Jamaat have been issuing threats to stage another 75-like incident and unseat the government.

The Awami League lawmaker said, “You will play in the field of communalism and we will play in the field of non-communalism. I asked to ring the bell against the anti-independence forces. I rang the bell today from Narayanganj.”

“Remember, we the children of freedom fighters and Sheikh Hasina’s workers are ready in Narayanganj with lakhs of people. The workers of Narayanganj are enough to play against the anti-independence forces.”

He said the chief of UN Human Rights came to the country. A total of 22 organisations went and said RAB did this, army did this. Why did you forget to say that 15 lakh Rohingyas have come to our country? Police and army are pride of our country. Do you want to deny the role of this RAB? Rohingya issue is the biggest issue. Why don't you go to Burma and tell to get back Rohingyas, otherwise sanctions will be given?”

Shamim Osman said, “I told Apa that it is too much, give us leave. She said your dream has been fulfilled, but my dream has not been fulfilled. My dream is that my father wanted to build a hunger-and poverty-free Sonar Bangla. That dream must be fulfilled. She is working to make Bangladesh stand tall on the world map. Attempts have been made to kill Sheikh Hasina 21 times. Even then, she did not give up. The children of that leader will not stop.”

“After killing Bangabandhu families in 75, elder brother Salim Osman went out alone to take revenge. Father was arrested. I was very young. I felt sorry that if the time ever comes, we will be ready to give our lives for the Bangabandhu family. So, I am always ready. Millions of workers in Narayanganj are ready to give their lives if any harm comes to Sheikh Hasina and her family.”

“You (BNP-Jamaat leaders and workers) are jumping on the words of Tarique Rahman. He never came home to see his sick mother. He will not come if you are in danger.”

He said: “The soil of Narayanganj will remain the stronghold of Shekha Hasina and the stronghold of Awami League. The workers of Narayanganj do not sleep. Stay alert during the day. Without threats, come and visit Narayanganj. Who are waiting for the 24-hour game with lakhs of workers on the streets?”

Narayanganj Metropolitan Awami League senior vice-president Babu Chandan Sheel, who lost both legs in the bomb attack on Chajara Awami League office on June 16 in 2001, presided over the meeting.

District Awami League General Secretary Abu Hasnat Shahid Badal, Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary Khokon Saha also spoke.
